HYDRANGEAS — TIPS FOR LONGER-LASTING BLOOMS

Hydrangeas need plenty of water. Even a short shortage can cause their flower heads to wilt. To keep them plump and beautiful for longer, remember these tips:

1. Always start with a clean vase and clean water
Wash the vase thoroughly before arranging your flowers and use clean water. A dirty vase or bacteria-contaminated water can block the stems' water-conducting vessels.

2. Split the stem ends to improve water uptake
After trimming the stems, use a sharp knife to split the lower 2–3 cm lengthwise into 2 or 4 sections. This increases contact with the water.

3. Use flower food
Add flower food to the water at the recommended dosage. It supplies nutrients and helps limit bacterial growth.

4. Change the water frequently
When changing the water, wash the vase and trim a little off each stem before arranging the flowers again.

5. Keep flowers somewhere cool
Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources and strong drafts. A cool, airy place helps hydrangeas absorb water and maintain full, firm flower heads.

QUICK TIP:
If your flowers begin to wilt, check the stems first. Recut and split the ends, then place them in clean water with flower food — hydrangeas often recover well when rehydrated promptly.
