Venus Protea – Protea ‘Venus’
Protea ‘Venus’ is a natural hybrid of Protea aristata and Protea repens, originating in South Africa. In the late 1980s, Pam Michell spotted a striking pink-flowered plant growing among proteas at Calenick Farm in Stellenbosch. Identified as the result of natural pollination between the two species, it was named Venus after the goddess of love.
Today, Venus is a popular commercial Protea grown primarily as a cut flower. Its deep pink flowers with white edges have a distinctive form that stands out in floral arrangements.
